Measuring the Pumpkin

Well, my original post will have to wait til tomorrow......it's a 2-part project and the 1st part wasn't dry yet, so hopefully we can finish this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

So, I will show you something else we did today......it's not a craft, but it's something you can still do with your children at home.  We are planning on carving our pumpkin and digging out the guts (as the children called it this morning) on Thursday when all the school kids are here (there is no school Thursday and Friday, so my house will be a little crazier then it already is and I am planning a little Halloween Party with all the kids too.....so I have lots planned for this week!)

We first brought in our big white pumpkin that the kids picked from Serenity Gardens.

I asked them how many pounds they thought it weighed.....some of them picked it up (or tried to pick it up).....they thought it was pretty heavy.

After I wrote down their predictions, we weighed it.....15 pounds!

Then we measured it with yarn......36 inches around!

Here are the children's predictions and the results.

If you remember from last week, we talked about the tree across the street that the kids have been watching.....well, all the green leaves finally turned red, orange and yellow!  The children looked out the window this morning and were so excited to see that the leaves on the tree had all turned colors.  Isn't it beautiful!!!
