Party!!!! (Part 2)

We finally carved our white pumpkin.....let me tell you, it was a tough one!  That baby was so thick, it bent a couple of my carving knives (you know the ones that come in the kits).  Thankfully the design the kids picked wasn't too intricate or it probably wouldn't have worked.  They wanted to do a ghost since the pumpkin was white, so that is what we did.  I had quite a few activities planned for the morning, but the pumpkin took so long that we didn't have time for the other stuff......they didn't seem to care though!  May do some of them today or even Monday.  I planned on doing some pumpkin bowling, pumpkin toss and also painting with pumpkins (roll pumpkins in paint and then roll on butcher paper taped to the driveway).  The kids were more interested in the food and the pumpkin...oh and their goody bags (I wish I would have gotten a picture of them with their vampire teeth in....they were hilarious!)....they could have cared less about the other stuff!

Cooper was going to try the scoop and see if that worked better.

Look at all these seeds!

These two had so much fun pulling the guts out!  They weren't ready to be done!

I love this picture.....B was NOT going to touch the guts!

E was really getting into it!

The Guts!

Look how thick it is!

They are so proud of their pumpkin!

The eyes were supposed to be cut out, but I knew that wasn't going to happen.....so we just drew them on.  I think next year, we may just paint pumpkins.....I found some really cool ideas on Pinterest that I think I will try next year.....can you tell I love Pinterest!  If you haven't checked it out, you should.....and if you need an invite, let me know.

I almost forgot about our glue ghosts.....they are so simple.  Give each child a piece of wax paper and some glue.  If you want, you can make a simple pattern for them to put under their wax paper.

Then just let them squeeze as much glue as they want.....my older kids actually outlined the pattern and filled in, but either way works.

Then add some wiggly eyes and let dry for a couple days.....then just peel them off the wax paper.  You could even poke a hole in the top and hang them.

Happy Halloween!!!

PARTY!!!! (Part 1)

This post is all about the food we ate at our party today.
I made spider web brownies......I haven't made these in like 5 years, so I was hoping they turned out ok.....and they did.  I had an extra box of brownie mix just in case.
You will need parchment paper (cut in a circle).  I use my large round stone from.....who else, but Pampered Chef.  I cut my circle just a little bit smaller then the stone and layed it on top.  Then mix up a batch of your favorite brownies......I made these according to the directions on the box.

Then pour onto the parchment paper and spread it out almost to the edge.  The parchment paper keeps the brownie from running off the edge.

Then bake.....I am not exactly sure how long to bake.....you will just have to watch it.....I kind of lost track of time and almost forgot about them!

When you are done and they have cooled.....I waited til this morning so the kids could all watch.....they thought it was pretty cool.  They also picked out the spiders and told me where to put them.  I just took cream cheese frosting, put it in a baggy and snipped one corner......then just went around the entire brownie with it.  When you are done, take a toothpick and start in the middle and drag out......go all the way around and it looks like a spider web.  Very easy and very delicious!  There were so many fun ideas that I saw on Pinterest to make for the kids or with the kids for today, but in the end I came back to this......I knew they would love it and eat it......some of the stuff looked cute, but figured they would eat one or two bites and be done.

Along with our brownie, we had orange jigglers and orange punch (2 liter of sprite and a pkg of orange kool-aid).

Don't you just love the orange Solo cups with lids and straws?!  I do..... I found them at Target.....they come in a pack of 15....orange and black.  I am not sure if they have them just for Halloween or if they have them all the time.....I am loving them though....perfect for the kids!

Next was lunch.....I wanted to do somthing fun for them, but also needed it to be something they would actually eat.  So, I made them mummies.  They are just hotdogs wrapped in the Pillsbury breadstick dough.  Before wrapping them up, I rolled the dough out flat and cut them in half length wise so it was easier to wrap them.  Then just wrap around the hot dog and cute a little slit for the eyes.  When they are done, you can make 2 eyes with mustard.  I also cut grapes in half and we all thought they looked like eyeballs!

This afternoon, I was going to make this but again I wanted the kids to eat it and wasn't sure if they would.....I was going to form them into balls to look like pumpkins (may try this another time).  So, instead we will be popping popcorn and adding some candy corn......and maybe some more brownie.....they were all asking for more.  Warning to Parents: your child may be on a sugar high!  We will be eating it while watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown."

Tomorrow I will show you our white pumpkin.....the kids voted on what they wanted to carve.....I think it turned out really cool!

Spiders

Here is our craft we did yesterday.....they take a while to completely dry, so we had to finish them up this morning.  You will need styrofoam balls.....you can use any size and you can even cut them in half.  I needed one more and I didn't really want to go out and buy one (I had these left over from a few years ago), so I gave the 2 younger kids a half of one.  You will also need black craft paint and black pipe cleaners.....if you don't have black pipe cleaners, you can paint them.  I have done that in the past and it works out really well.

An easy way for the kids to hold onto the ball without being completely covered in paint is to stick a fork or craft stick in the bottom so they have something to hold onto.

Then they are ready to paint.  I showed the kids that they could roll their ball in paint and then brush the rest on.....made it a little easier and quicker.

Once they are dry.....you can start putting them together.  I cut the pipe cleaners in half and gave each child 8.....I helped them put the pipe cleaners in and then bend the legs.  To make eyes for the spiders, you can use push pins, thumb tacks, wiggly eyes, or brads.  I had these little silver brads left over from another project, so we used those.  The kids could just push them in and be done.

If you get the legs in pretty straight, they will stand......perfect for Halloween!!!
