Shamrocks

We made another fun and easy shamrock today.

Materials Needed:
Empty paper towel tube or toilet paper tube
Paint (we used a lighter shade of green)
Green construction paper
Glitter (we used gold and green)

First you need to bend your paper towel tube into a heart shape.....this will be dipped in paint to make your shamrocks.

Now start stamping.....I was really impressed that the kids didn't go crazy with the stamping, they all wanted theirs to look like shamrocks....some of them wanted a little help on which way the heart should go.  After the shamrocks were made, we took a small paint brush to add a stem and then sprinkled with glitter.  Some of the kids wanted gold and some wanted green.

I was surprised how well they all turned out.....they did a great job!

I didn't have any green glitter, so we made some.....I found this recipe on Pinterest and it was so easy to make.....will definitely be making it again.

Glitter Recipe
Mix 1/4 cup of salt with 1/2 teaspoon of food coloring in a small bowl until the salt is uniformly colored.  Then spread the mixture out in an even layer on a foil-lined baking sheet.  Bake in a 350 degreee oven for 10 minutes.

Allow your homemade glitter to cool before using it.  You may also store in an air tight container for several months.

NOTE: Do NOT use the paste food coloring, liquid only.....apparently the paste may cause smoking.
