Marbled Eggs

Here is another fun Easter Egg......this activity is very similar to the shamrocks we made with shaving cream.  This time we used poster board to make it a little sturdier and also in the middle of the egg, we put a cross with masking tape to represent the cross that Jesus died on.

Sorry, it's kind of hard to see the cross.

The kids got to work dripping paint on the shaving cream.....we used green, blue, pink and purple.....some of the kids used 2 colors and some used at 4.

Then swirl the paint and shaving cream together with a toothpick.  When finished, lay the egg on top of the paint and press down.  Then pick straight up and wipe off the shaving cream to to reveal the marble effect.

After you have wiped off the excess, pull the tape off to reveal the cross.
I think these turned out really neat and the kids were very excited to pull off the tape......everytime the tape came off they all said it was the cross that Jesus died on!

Corn Syrup Easter Eggs

Yesterday we started our unit on Easter by making some fun eggs......we of course talked about and will talk some more about why we celebrate Easter (and no not the Easter bunny), but Jesus dying on the cross for our sins.  I had one child that was concerned that we were going to be nailed to the cross as well, but I assured her that would not happen.

We started off by dying corn syrup with food coloring.....this will be the "paint."  I had an egg shape for each of the children to paint on.  You can use a spoon or a paint brush to decorate the egg.  When the children used a spoon, they realized they could drip it and also smooth it out.....towards the end they were all using the spoon to smooth out the corn syrup to cover their entire egg.

Maddox even got into doing this.....when he is home with us, he thinks he needs to do art as well.  So, as you can see most of these projects can be adapted to do with toddlers....they don't really care what their picture looks like, they just like to DO it!  It's a great process for them as well.

Their end product looked way different after they smeared the corn syrup all over.....I think they look very cool and very shiny.  I will warn you, they take awhile to dry especially if you have big puddles of corn syrup.  Also, make sure you lay on wax paper underneath the egg or you will have a sticky mess and possibly ruin the egg trying to get it up.

Spring Break!

This blog will be a little quiet this week, we are on Spring Break!  Right now the weather is not cooperating too well for us.....so this afternoon I am taking the kids to see The Lorax 3D!!!  Nothing better than watching a movie on a rainy day.  Yesterday we took the kids to Pure Entertaiment.....my kids love this place.....nothing but inflatables to jump in, climb on and slide down!

Look at that happy boy!!!

This cracked me up.....you hook up to a bungee cord and you see how far you can go before it pulls you back.

Even big kids love this place!

Can you tell they are having fun??!!!!

I have a small injury, so not much jumping for me.

Maddox was exhausted when we left.

Cupcakes

Were you wondering what kind of cupcakes we made yesterday??  Well, here they are.....rainbow cupcakes......the kids were very excited about making these.  We made similar ones in August, but this time we used all 6 colors and layered them in order, then topped with green frosting for St. Patrick's Day.

Can you see the rainbow.....kind of.....I didn't have any of the red paste so I had to use food coloring which makes the red more of a pink.  Some of the cupcakes looked different depending on how much of each color was put into the liner, but I think they look prett cute and the kids loved them!

We decided it was too nice to eat inside, so we ate our cupcakes outside......and thank goodness we did cause they were messy!

I also made these cute baggies up for the kids to take home.....found on Pinterest of course!  Here is the download if you want to make your own.....just print out and attach to a baggie filled with Lucky Charms.

Don't forget to wear green tomorrow!
