Snowmen

Don't you just love to make snowmen outside on a nice snowy day??  Well, today is not one of those days.....actually this week hasn't even felt like January (yesterday I had my windows open cause the house was feeling a bit too warm) maybe a little more like March.  So, we made our snowmen inside with paper plates.....did you know that you can create almost anything with a paper plate??  I was asked once by one of my very first daycare parents......"Is there anything you can't make from a paper plate?"  Needless to say, we used to do a lot of crafts with paper plates!  Anyway, we read a book about snowmen, talked about how we would build a snowman and what we would use to decorate a snowman.

Here is what they responded with:
Roll 3 balls.....big one on the bottom, medium one in the middle and a small one on top.
Hat......a black one.
Eyes......rocks or balls.
Nose......a carrot and make sure it's orange!
Mouth......small rocks to make a smile cause you can't use a marker in snow!
Arms......sticks
They also said he needs a scarf and buttons down the front.

We started off by stapling 3 small paper plates together to resemble a snowman.
Then I just grabbed a bunch of craft supplies.....yarn, ribbon, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, pom poms, sequins, beads, and ric rac......use whatever you have on hand.  I also cut each child an orange carrot nose and a black top hat.

Then give them some glue and let them create!

We cut some yarn to tie around for a scarf and used pipe cleaners and poked them through for their arms.
As you can see they were all very creative in their work......you never know where they will put the eyes, nose and mouth!!!  I love that their snowmen are different and unique just like they are!
