Bug Hunt

Well, finally Spring is here and hoping it sticks around!  So, today we got outside this morning on a search for bugs.  We've been doing a lot with bugs this week and read some good bug books, so thought it would be fun to actually see some bugs......they were really hoping to see some ladybugs.  Well we searched quite awhile, but didn't see one bug!  Boo!  But, it was so beautiful out the children didn't really care and they definitely had fun searching.  Here are some pictures from our morning outside.  I will share our ladybug craft with you another day.....need to finish them up.

I was so glad I was able to capture this picture......such boys!!!

L was on a search for dandelions!

After some bug hunting, we needed to just PLAY!!!!

Inchworms

This week, we are talking about bugs and creatures outside......was hoping to go on a bug hunt yesterday, but it was not good bug hunting weather so hopefully tomorrow will be better.  These could be inchworms or even caterpillars.  Since we did caterpillars last week, we decided they would be inchworms!  You need toilet paper or paper towel rolls for the worm.  You want to cut in half lengthwise and then cut into strips (all the same width) for the body.  For the head, I just cut about an inch or more of the toilet paper tube (this was from one that wasn't cut in half yet).

Then staple together to look like the worm below.

You could just use markers to decorate, but my kiddos love to paint so we painted.  I let them decide how and what colors they wanted and they got to work.

Then we just added wiggly eyes and a nose and mouth (D painted her eyes on.....she wanted them to be pink).  I think they turned out pretty darn cute!  I love being able to use recycled products for crafts.

I love how each one is unique!

Disney World - Animal Kingdom, Part 1

With the weather like it is outside today, I would much rather be back in Florida with the 70 and 80 degree temps and the sun shining!

Animal Kingdom is like a giant zoo with rides!  My children LOVE animals and LOVE going to different zoos, so they were definitely excited to go to Animal Kingdom.  We got there almost an hour before it opened......this is almost necessary unless you wait till later in the morning to go to the parks, but lines are much shorter in the first few hours of the park opening.  Plus you have to stand in line to scan your card to get into the park and also bag check (this is done before you get into any park if you have a purse, backpack, cooler, etc).  We took a backpack with us everyday......extra clothes (definitely a must with little kids and also if you ride rides where you may get wet or soaked like we did on Kali River Rapids ), camera, sunscreen (yes, even in December), snacks, maps, autograph books, etc.

The tree of life.....beautiful!

Checking out all the fish.

We went on a Safari ride......several times!  The kids really loved driving through and seeing all the animals......sometimes we coud see different things at different times, so definitely fun to go back on.

Alligators

These trees grew upside down.

Towards the end of the afternoon, we got to see a rare moment of the lion actaully up and awake.

Playing the bongos

This was a bridge.....they were able to peek through and see the fish below.

This was a lady covered in leaves.....pretty cool to watch her come out of the trees.

Dug and Russell from the movie Up.

Lots more pictures from Animal Kingdom to come.....just too many for one post!
