Lava Lamps

I have some fun activities planned throughout the summer.......not so much crafts (well maybe a few), but more projects and just fun stuff to do outside.  And this weather we are having is perfect for it.  Today we made lava lamps (totally forgot about blogging about our field trip last week, so will post pictures on that another time).  Anyway, here is what you will need......water, oil, empty bottle (could even use a jar......just depends how careful you think your children will be), alka seltzer (generic works just fine), and food coloring.

Fill bottle a little over half way with oil.

Then remaining bottle with water......don't fill all the way to the top.

Then add 10 drops of food coloring......a few of the children put 5 of each color to make another color......red and yellow to make orange.  I did have one that put red and green and it turned the water brown, but some of the specks are still red and green.

Then break an alka seltzer tablet into 4s and drop one at a time into the bottle.  Make sure it stops fizzing before you add another or it gets too cloudy.

Put the lid on and watch it......can turn it upside down and rock it back and forth......I don't recommend shaking it, gets a little cloudy.

Aren't these fun??!!!!!  Not sure how long they will last, but fun nonetheless!  I think I may experiment and put a glowstick in one for a nightlight or fun at night outside.......or even break one open and poor some in......may try on our next camping trip!

Do you have summer activities planned with your kiddos??  We have our list and checking them off as we go.  Also have several field trips planned.....heading to Botanica Gardens in Wichita tomorrow!

End of the Year!

Well another year has come and gone.  I have 4 little ones that will be heading to Kindergarten next year.....a little sad :(  but also such an exciting time for them!  The past few weeks we have been finishing up our journals, we took some end of the year pictures and also opened up our time capsule.  They were so excited for the time capsule......for me it was awesome to see how much they had grown, height and grown in their development.  Some of the children didn't know how to write their name and now they ALL can and some even neater than before.  Also, their drawing skills have improved as well.  Some of the children were just scribbling a person and now you can actually see the body parts and tell what they are!  YAY!!!!

Each child wrote their name on the chalkboard and I took their picture......will be fun to look back and see how they used to write their name

And since I never blogged about our Mother's Day gifts (I've been slacking a bit.....or just busy!), here is a picture of what the children did.....they decorated frames and I took their picture outside on the driveway with sidewalk chalk.  They also answered some questions about their mom as well......some of their answers were quite funny!

Today we ended our year with a pizza party, ice cream cone cupcakes, fun games outside and a volcano!!!  We are definitely ready for summer around here!  I have lots of outside activities planned as well as field trips and lots of pool time!!!

Ladybugs

Well we finished our ladybugs from last week.

Just cut apart an egg carton......each "hump" will be 1 ladybug.  Then have the children paint entire hump red.

Once the red paint is dry, add black dots......we just painted ours on.

After they dried completely, we added a black pom pom for the face and added wiggly eyes......cute and easy!

Bug Hunt

Well, finally Spring is here and hoping it sticks around!  So, today we got outside this morning on a search for bugs.  We've been doing a lot with bugs this week and read some good bug books, so thought it would be fun to actually see some bugs......they were really hoping to see some ladybugs.  Well we searched quite awhile, but didn't see one bug!  Boo!  But, it was so beautiful out the children didn't really care and they definitely had fun searching.  Here are some pictures from our morning outside.  I will share our ladybug craft with you another day.....need to finish them up.

I was so glad I was able to capture this picture......such boys!!!

L was on a search for dandelions!

After some bug hunting, we needed to just PLAY!!!!
