Easter

This morning we had our Easter egg hunt.  Our yard is pretty much all mud right now, so I hid the eggs in our neighbor's yards......thank goodness for great neighbors!  I hid 12 eggs for each child.....2 of each color to put in their egg carton basket.  I colored the bottom of the egg carton with the corresponding color they were to find.....a fun matching game to go along with the hunt.

They are ready!

The bigger kids were helping L get her basket filled......so sweet!

Ray came out to help the children find their eggs......he told us when we were all done how much fun he had!  The kids love him!

We made egg nests for our morning snack......here is a link if you want the recipe......super quick and easy to make (just very sticky).

They definitely had a good time with the nests, eggs and peeps......they were pretending the peeps were laying their eggs!

I made homemade pizza for lunch......some wanted a bunny and some wanted an Easter egg, so we did both.

I'm sorry, this is a long post but we had lots of activities this morning that I want to share!  We made some pipe cleaner and bead crosses......just take 2 pipe cleaners and twist in the middle to make a cross (I cut one in half for the short piece).  Then the children just added beads to it.....some of them filled their pipe cleaner and others did just a little.

Maddox was telling me he did it!!!  Those little beads are hard to do, but great for working on those fine motor skills.

I think they turned out really cute and they were so proud of the way theirs looked.

And one more thing.....here are our eggs we dyed the other day.  We used a wisk to put their egg in while dipping......kept their hands clean and less mess too.  I hot glued their initial on their egg before dipping......you could make designs or whatever with the hot glue.  I don't have a cool to the touch one, so I didn't want the children doing it themselves.  You could peel the hot glue off after dying eggs and do other designs as well for a layered look.  We just left on and made it white.

These eggs were made with shaving cream and craft paint.....just swirled the paint into the shaving cream and rolled the eggs around.  You have to let dry (we did over night) and then wipe excess shaving cream off.....gives a marbled look.

Ok, I'm done!  As soon as kids wake up from their naps, we are headed outside......Spring is finally here and it is gorgeous outside!  Just wish it would stick around for awhile.
Hope you all have a Happy Easter!
Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed!!!!!

Jelly Beans

I know it's been awhile since I blogged last......my youngest was in the hospital for a few days with pneumonia, so that threw me for a loop and then it was Spring Break (which means NO SCHOOL!).  So, we have definitely been busy with activities and such, but not much with blogging!  Well, today we got back on track with some preschool activities and with Easter right around the corner, we needed to get busy talking about that.
We started off with a little jelly bean activity.......we talked about the true meaning of Easter and went through the jelly bean prayer with our jelly beans......you can find that prayer or poem here.  I always like to ask the children what Easter is about and see how much they actually know before beginning my story.....I was pleasantly surprised to know they actually knew quite a bit!

Then we sorted the jelly beans.

I cut an egg pattern out of poster board and had them spray it with water.

Then I let them put however many jelly beans they wanted on their egg and wherever they wanted.

The color of the jelly bean will start to "melt" onto the paper.....the longer they sit, the more color comes off.  You can even spray more water onto the jelly beans if you need to.  You can also move the jelly beans around and mix the colors together until you get the look you want.

You can tell some of the children used more black than others......definitely more of a process art, but that's ok......it was fun and the children learned something and loved doing it.
We also did a couple different egg dying processes as well, but will share those another day.

What I didn't finish blogging about a few weeks ago was our Lorax activities during Dr. Seuss week.....so here are a few pictures of our activities.  We of course had to watch The Lorax....cute movie!

Then we made some truffula trees with dyed cotton balls and pipe cleaners.

And a cupcake snack with pretzels and cotton candy truffula trees......aren't they cute??!!!!

Dr. Seuss

We read The Cat in the Hat this morning as part of our Dr. Seuss week.  To go along with our story we made blue "hair" like Thing 1 and Thing 2.  I gave each child a piece of blue paper.....I didn't have big blue paper, so I took 2 smaller pieces and taped them together.  Then each child was to cut strips down the paper to make it look like hair.....I drew a line close to the bottom so they wouldn't cut all the way through.

When they were all finished, I gave them each a number to write on their circle......we went in birth order from yongest to oldest, so we had Thing 1 up to Thing 7!

It's hard to read their circles, but they are in numerical order.  They all loved their blue hair!  I think they turned out super cute, but next time I think I would double up on the paper to make them have more hair.

When celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday, you have to have green eggs and ham.....it's a must!  So here is our lunch we had today.

Green Eggs and Ham (green eggs and ham)
Yink's Pink Ink from One Fish Two Fish (pink milk)
Cat in the Hat (bananas and apples on a stick)
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (colorful goldfish crackers)
Bartholomew and the Oobleck (green pudding for dessert)

We had such a fun morning with all the Dr. Seuss stuff and will be doing more on Thursday.....will be making some truffula trees like the ones on The Lorax!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

Tomorrow (March 2nd) is Dr. Seuss' Birthday!  Because of the snowdays this week, some of my kiddos didn't come so we didn't start our Dr. Seuss activities until Thursday so we will continue onto next week as well.....I have lots of fun activities and snacks planned!
Yesterday, we read the story One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  And to go along with our book, we made our own red and blue fishes.

I told the children, whatever paint shirt they put on was the color fish they were going to paint......thankfully there was no arguements!

Since we haven't fingerpainted in awhile, we decided to do that instead of using paintbrushes.
I gave them each a paper plate to paint.

Once the plate was dry, we cut a triangle out of it.....this makes the mouth and the tail.  We just stapled it on, added an eye and some glitter to make our fish sparkle.  Pretty easy and super cute to hang up!
