Marble Shamrocks

The next 2 weeks we will be talking about St. Patrick's Day, Shamrocks, and Rainbows.  Today we made marble shamrocks with shaving cream......do you remember this post when I said I would show you how to make marble painting with shaving cream, well here it is.  It is so easy to do and you can do this project on regular paper with lots of colors or any shape you desire.  We used a shamrock shape and green paint.  We used construction paper (cause that's what I had), but a heavier paper works really good too.....like cardstock or poster board.

Have the kids (the ones that are strong enough) squirt some shaving cream onto a plate or tray and then smooth it out the best you can.

Then squirt the paint of your choice on the shaving cream.....we used green.

Then take a toothpick and swirl the paint into the shaving cream.

After you get the look you want, press your shamrock shape or other shape into the paint and shaving cream.  Press lightly and then lift straight up.

Let the paper set for a minute and then use a flat scraper to scrape off the shaving cream.  The paint will remain on the paper and leave a marbled effect on the paper.

We will definitely be doing more marble shaving cream projects.....the kids thought it was really cool to see their design and it was fun to do!

Dr Seuss' Birthday!

Yesterday we celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday!  It was a busy day with lots of activities and lots of pictures (I even cut some out cause it was just getting too long).....I will share with you our craft and our food that we made.....the kids had a blast doing it all!

We started off making these cute Cat in the Hat snacks.....I saw these on Pinterest and thought the kids would love them (and they did.....they all ate every last bite) and they were so easy to do.  The bottom is half of an oreo and then we just layered with white frosting and red gummy savers.

I gave the kids a baggy filled with frosting and the corner snipped so they could do this part themselves.

Our craft was next......this took a little more help from me......we painted their hands to look like Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the book, Cat in the Hat.  Note: when you do the legs and arms, make sure you leave one of their fingers unpainted.....every single one of the kids asked why we skipped one of their fingers!

B was NOT about to let me paint his hand.....so, I just let him paint on his paper.

I love how D put her face on the body.....she said she liked red better than white, so that is where she wanted the face to go!

And finally for lunch we had Green Eggs and Ham......I absolutely love this book and could almost read it by heart!  I love the message that it brings at the end of the book.....and surprisingly the kids get that.....almost all of the kids said, "it's just like eating regular eggs and ham....they just have green food coloring in them!"
They of course had to help me wisk the eggs.

Usually I just make the eggs green, but the kids insisted the ham be green as well.  One of them said they only eat green ham!!!  LOL

I think every single one of them ate their green eggs and ham!

What a fun day it was!

National Pig Day

Wow, what a busy day we have had.  I am just now getting a moment to actually sit down!  So, I am making this post short......we did lots of celebrating for Dr. Seuss' birthday, but will share that with you tomorrow.  We just got back from celebrating National Pig Day at Parkside with the residents.

We first learned some fun facts about pigs.....the kids had fun guessing the answers to their questions..... like how many toes they have, are they clean animals, how many teeth do they have, etc.

Then in came the guest of honor......Willie, the pot-bellied pig!  He was all dressed up for the occasion.....in his tuxedo, top hat and sunglasses!  He is also house broken......no thank you!

The kids were very excited!

They were feeding him apples.....and they let the kids do it as well.

Before leaving, the children handed out their pig coloring pages they colored for the residents.  The children were also given a snack of pigs-in-a-blanket, red piggy banks to take home and muddy buddies (pig food).

What a fun afternoon spent with the residents at Parkside!  We are so thankful that they invited us to come and celebrate with them and for all their goodies they gave the children!!!
